An inspired ten minutes Paul, excellent sketch.

These old barges are great Paul- (when I first saw this sketch I thought it was by Alan!)

This looks so good Paul on the toned paper. A very good 10 mins indeed.

George , Hilary and Christine thank you for your kind comments. Hilary that’s a great compliment, but I have to say that Alan’s work is much better than this .

Just realised that the photo is showing the dark as well as it could, the dark areas are really darker on the original image.

Very effective drawing Paul

Always like your boats Paul, nicely done.

Love it, it can hang on my wall anytime !!

Fabulous Paul. Great use of mediums and I love the colour of the paper.

Beautifully sketched, Paul - excellent!

Very effective, Paul, I like the coloured paper and touches of white.

Thank you all for your very kind comments, I appreciate them .

Super! A great example of less is more.

Not bad for 10 minutes!

I love this sketch. Very well executed and draws you in (pardon the pun).

Like this sketch Paul and a very good 10 minuter

The toned paper is a good choice, Dixie, it certainly raises the white. I Agree, Alan gives us good ideas to try out.

It’s really rewarding when you get such nice comments and feedback from fellow artists, thanks everyone.

Great use of colour and of 10 minutes Dixie

I really like the loose style and good use of the toned paper

Lively and characterful. Excellent for ten minutes, Paul.

Really striking Paul. The three colours, they work so well together.

Thank you Gerry , John and Sandra .

A4 pen sketch on tan paper of two old Thames Barges , these old boats can still be seen ax there are several in preservation and race regularly. I love all ships and boats etc but these are definitely up there in the top three, my inspiration for sketching this comes from looking at the work of Rowland Hilder and several other artists, including our Mr Bickley ,who I thank for the inspiration and encouragement. Fine liners and a white gel pen , don’t in ten minutes to stop me fiddling.

About the Artist

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
