Out of the morning mist

Fascinating craft. I remember them from my childhood on the Thames near Greenwich. My wife's grandfather skippered one that traded along the south coast. I like the misty effect in your painting.

You’ve created a lovely Misty effect here Paul, like it very much.

Love the misty effect Paul, beautiful scene.

Thank you Lew , Fiona and Denise for you very kind comments. Interesting that your wife grandfather was a sailing barge skipper Lew , they must have need tough times men no cabin or shelter for the helmsmen, a hardy lot I recon . .

The atmospheric nature of this painting is beautiful lie executed...

Like it a lot Paul

Love the mist and the barge is painted so beautifully Paul.

Love the mist effect, lovely painting Paul.

Thank you John , Romila, Diane and Carole for your very kind comments they are appreciated very much. I left some bits unpainted and used thin watercolour , I then wet areas with clean water and dabbed of with a tissue or a soft brush to lift out some colour , to achieve the misty effect.

Lovely misty view

Watercolour of a Thames sailing barge on the river Orwell, heading down river in the early morning mist . The scene is imaginary based on research, very majestic looking craft used well into the mid 1900. Some even help with the evacuation of Dunkirk , many plied there trade taking hay , bricks and food stuff up the Thames and into London . The pink building nis very typical of Suffolk and Norfolk.
