Really good depth and lovely crisp light and shadows. And, yes, I remember it being cold at Middlewood!

Thank you all for those much appreciated comments. I always try to paint how it felt to be in that place in that weather, and I think this one works. And I had a big holly tree at my back to keep the worst of the wind off.

Thank you, Gillian. My favourite limited palette of ultramarine and Daniel Smith's variants on raw and burnt Sienna, Transparent Yellow Oxide, and Transparent Red Oxide whose granulation gives the trunks texture.

Winter Trees, Princes Woods. If the price to pay for bright March sun is a strong, freezing wind, so be it. So many weekly outdoor sessions have been rained off this year.
