This is awesome, love it.

Does it work? Of course it does - super work Caroline

Love the composition Caroline, feels like i'm there!

A typical Dellar subject, well handled Caroline

Well captured, great atmosphere and composition. Took me back to when I was last there...in 1958!!

Thank you everyone very much. The couple on the right walking towards the archway are my parents in law., who have an apartment there. He often leans on her shoulder as they walk along. They're in their 80's and she has more energy than anyone I know. I'm so glad you think the painting has atmosphere. Fred, I'm guessing in many ways Barcelona probably hasn't changed much since then, although it's full of tourists year-round now.

I love the composition Caroline and I also love the palette you've used....very mellow. In answer to your question, which I forgot to answer about the size of canvas I use for painting on location, I usually do use something this size and mainly a more landscape format 24 X 18-ish. The size might have something to do with the fact that I hardly ever finish one!!!lol

Thank you Fiona. Wow, yes, that's a lot of canvas to cover. I'm quite slow in everything I do so I paint smaller but I do like the bigger paintings.

Oil on board, 11" X 9". From a recent Watershed Studio weekend course with Roger Dellar. I'm not sure the composition works that happily, but I wanted to give a sense of light and shade in the narrow medieval alleyways and high buildings of Barcelona.
