It's lovely, Caroline. I like how you captured the translucent segments of the orange.

To me, this hasn't turned out at all bad Caroline. It's worth experimenting with your daylight lamp because the bulb is the best to see by if you don't have adequate natural light. I'm lucky that I can have my room set up as I like because it is just used for my art and so I have a daylight bulb in the ceiling light and two shining down on my easel and then another two on my drawing desk. With one lamp, maybe you have to have it further away from the object so that it produces a softer light.

Excellent painting, Caroline, as always... very eye-catching... I like the simplicity of your still lifes.

That's very encouraging, Seok, thank you - I was aiming for exactly that, the translucency, but to my eye I'd failed. Adele, that's really helpful. Are there warm and cool bulbs in your selection of lights? Thanks so much, Jan, I do like simple, plus I feel I learn more if I focus on one thing.

I like the colours, look good to me Caroline.

So juicy Caroline. Lovely work!

Thank you for your encouragement, Carole and Jennife, much appreciated.

I should know by now, but still, I had a surprise this morning having painted this last night. The colours are completely changed. I have a daylight lamp, which I didn't use last night, bit I find it's difficult to get the setup right so the light's shining on the object but a) not making it shiny and hard to see, and b) my shadow isn't falling across the object. If I position the light (which is on a stand) to one side, it picks up on the ridges of the thicker paint/brushstrokes. What do you do for lighting?
