I made this sketch in my Tiger sketch book while we waited for the RHS flower show to open at Chatsworth. We'd heard ominous tales of traffic jams and set off early, only to find ourselves with the thick end of an hour to kill before admission. So a coffee in the stable courtyard and an ink line drawing with values added from the 6B Pilot Croquis pencil and a torchon for the tonal gradients was the order of the day. Whenever you're faced with a two point perspective with both VP's out of picture like this, the first step is to find eye level - the height at which lines of perspective are horizontal, whatever plane they are in; quite low in this sketch, in fact in theory at the eye level of all the other seated figures, though I'm not sure how well I've observed the rule. From then on it's a case of making sure that the pitches of all perspective lines above and below eye level relate properly to one another. My rendition is a bit sloppy but broadly correct.
