Art in the Gardens
This was a short demo' done at the easel at Art in the Gardens, an annual outdoor Art event held in Sheffield's Botanical Gardens. I painted the scene in front of me, a practise which has become a habit for me over the last few years and which will happen again when I take a marquee there in September this year. There are three, sometimes conflicting criteria for choice of scene: a decent composition for me; seating & standing space for an audience; and a location which keeps thoroughfares clear for the organisers; not easy. I talked about subject choice & composition; minimal sketching; bright incisive colour palette; representation of figures, foliage and atmosphere & impressions before detail, to name some. Watercolour.
