Hardwick Hall
This pencil drawing was a fascinating ask; the then lady of the house commissioned a drawing of this famous Hall as a gift for her hubby, who would be overseas for a while. We arranged a meet up during his absence and because the commission included not only the magnificent Hall but also two well-loved vintage cars and a motor bike posing in front, between the two of us (she in a pair of overalls - I was most impressed) we rolled each vehicle out of its Winter garaging, removed their respective tarpaulins and after I had taken photographs at the required angles, rolled them back to bed. I photographed my own car in various positions in front of the Hall to get the right scale and perspective and dubbed in the actual vehicles later. Hubby was delighted with the results; so much so that he appeared at the preview of an exhibition of mine a few weeks later, to tell me that both the drawing and a thumbnail mock-up I had produced for approval, were hanging cheek by jowl in a favourite place
