Another typical property commission with familiar issues; my choice of aspect , composition, time and resultant shadow pattern - the latter an intrinsic criterion in modelling the elements to good effect. Again Google Earth and the weather forecast pay their way in sorting out a time to visit for the best lighting to inform the painting. Explanatory shadows figure on the gables and eaves along the length of the building and at the same time break up the otherwise uninterrupted extent of the lawn in the foreground. The view is from the shade of what I'm told is Sheffield's oldest tree.
