Captured perfectly, Barry. I can feel the steam. Super painting.

Distinct influences of the Spanish American chap Barry (forgotten his name at the moment), but very well done. Great authentic atmosphere.

Very good, atmospheric work Barry. As Jim has said, a hint of Alvaro.

Love the loose approach Barry, thought you had gone AWOL!

Thank you Seth, Jim, Stephen and Alan, understand the Alvaro reference but actually this time it was his mate Joseph Zbukvic. It’s good to be back posting on the site if only to prove I hadn’t gone AWOL Alan.

Super steamy work, Barry. Love the way you've painted the chefs, especially the one in the middle background, who's almost not there.

Super Barry. As they say a little is more.

Thank you Lewis and John, I was a little worried that I had put in too much detail but it’s nice to know that others think that it works.

Gosh, I can feel the heat.

Very nice Barry, I like it.

Thank you Dawn and Dennis I really appreciate your comments.

You’ve certainly captured the feel of a hot busy kitchen Barry. Very effective.

Wonderful painting Barry. I feel the heat in the kitchen.

great wet in wet work but still suggesting plenty of interest and detail without going overboard. An eye catcher and a keeper.

You've caught the mood and atmosphere of the hotel kitchen very well indeed, Barry. Excellent work. Brian

Thanks toTessa, Dorothy, Mike and Brian, so many people have commented on the atmosphere and the suggestion of detail which is very gratifying.

What a great painting Barry!

Thank you Margaret.

You suggested the atmosphere very well, Barry, with few and right details.

Lovely free watercolour.

Caught the atmosphere perfectly

Thank you Cesare, Maureen and Glenda I really appreciate your comments.

Lovely work, Barry, as always, less is more, and great atmospheric piece, brilliantly executed

First painting for a few weeks. Kept my washes wet for as long as possible in an attempt to get as many soft edges as possible and convey a feeling of a hot steamy kitchen. Felt the negative painting to reveal the figures worked really well. I painted this on Bockingford 200lb but feel it would have worked even better on Arches.

Barry Hulme

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
