personally , I like the occasional combination of water colour and gouache in a painting. water colour for skies - and this one is great -and then the opaque colour on the land subjects. Apt if one considers the solidity of the earth and the see through nature of the atmosphere. I reckon it has worked well in this painting. Like it.

Thank you Mike I certainly don’t mind mixing things up a bit have even been known to include a bit of pastel from time to time.

I think this works well Barry, the shadows on the lane are a nice lead in.

I detest masking fluid Barry, so glad you didn't go that route. Turner and Rowland Hilder both used white body colour, so I'm with them all the way! Super work with atmosphere.

I have been experimenting this morning lots of water and splatter especially in the foreground. At the end I had to use some opaque paint to regain some of the light but could have masking fluid. Probably not as clean as I would like but it was good fun.
