Looks super as it is, and wet on wet can present fast absorption, but you appear to have achieved what you set out to paint in structure and form with ease! The pigments are well balanced too, incorporating the three main objectives, the canal, bridge, and church! I admire the way you included the figures walking towards the bridge they are colourful and stroll well at slow pace, a delightful scene indeed!

Thank you Angela i appreciate your analysis and in general I am pleased with the finished painting. In fact Bockingford would have been fine if I had got the tones correct in the first instance. Cotton rag gives that bit of reassurance when we don’t get it right and have to work into the washes for longer.

Like it says on the tin Barry. I Like the bold brushwork and the simplicity whilst catching the whole scene. Nice work.

It's super, Barry. There's a lot of vitality, atmosphere and great light. And the brushwork is fabulous!

Thank you Jim and Seok, it is simple and spontaneous and any new attempt might not have those qualities.

It looks super Barry, all the elements are there and the canal leads your eye up to the church.

This has a beautiful flow to it Barry.

Looks very good to me, Barry.

Thank you Margaret B, Carole and Margaret N, for pointing out all the positives, ok I accept I’m just never satisfied.

And a great painting Barry

Caught the atmosphere well here Barry, nice use of tone also., Is there a slight slope to the right in the buildings behind the bridge? I came across a similar scene on Grahame Booth's website recently, worth a look.

Thanks Stephen, yes in this image it’s more pronounced due to me having to edit my bad phototherapy but I often deliberately put some angle on buildings to add a bit more character.

This is one of those paintings that I say if only I had done this at that stage it would have been great I am sure we have all been there. Although I am pleased with the result as always it could have been so much better. I am reminded of the limitations of Bockingford paper when using a lot of wet in wet washes. I may well try again using a cotton rag paper.
