Very well painted Barry. Good composition and the use of plenty of darks accentuates the strong feeling of light. The light on the cottage roof stands out and the shadows across the road look good. You have managed to paint this in a nice loose but controlled way avoiding unnecessary detail. Well done.

After a morning painting and sketching at Stoke by Nayland I wanted to get some photographs of a water mill that is situated nearby. Having taken the photos I turned around and went back to my car only to see this before me, as I was parked in a rarther precarious position I quickly took a photo and returned to the studio at Dedham Hall where I was staying. I painted this picture from the photo but did use a bit of artistic licence as the tree on the right did partly obscure the end of the cottage and I felt this would improve the composition. It's painted on Arches 140lb not half imperial.
