I’d leave it as it is, Alan. It’s a gorgeous painting.

This is absolutely gorgeous, Alan...might agree about the sky, can you look for my weight belt, please, i lost it 20 years ago near that headland bit!!! LOL. Love the colours...I think, sky's fine, looking at it again.

It’s excellent as it is Alan, I would be tempted to just make the adjustment to the sky and leave the rest.

Don't know this cove. I like the high view point, the far horizon and strip of sky work fine for me. From this photo I'm getting a hazy look on land and sea, that works well, too.

Great impressive painting, Alan, I'd say it is finished.

Lovely colours Alan, I'm sure whatever you decide it will be another great painting, I don't think any houses would destract from it. The colours are so strong they can take added detail.

Well this was a quick response, thank you so much. I will probably tweak the sky a little, but still keeping it close to the sea colour, but slightly more defined between the two, no hard edge though!. I may drop a few loosely painted houses in along the road area. I'll sit on it for a day or two anyway, as it is was only painted yesterday and is obviously too wet to work on.

Great colours, like the misty effect, and the powers that be obviously like it too.

Yes a tiny shade lighter just above horizon blended in the sky Alan other than that I'd leave it, great view.

Oops, sorry you state that the actual painting does have a lighter sky. Yes I'd leave it Alan 😉

Reference material was courtesy of a friend who visited the area last week, hence the vibrant colours! She's sent me over a fair few to look at, I may be able to make a small series from them given some degree of imagination!. This one was a zoom in by me, as I wanted to hone in on the more interesting focal point. Taken from the footpath along the cliff edge. Thanks again.

Very effective, Alan.

Leave it alone! It's got atmosphere, colour and interest Alan. I can see the horizon line so no probs there.

Absolutely stunning Alan.

Well, I just had to have another go at it, as I would, totally impatient and itchy fingers. I've worked on the sky slightly, and added some more buildings, not too many so as to detract the eye from the focal point. I think it's an improvement, but it's not fair to change the photo now as you have made some lovely comments based on what you see. I may put the re-vamped version on next week.

Lovely work once again and straight onto the top gallery,

I love your use of blues in the landscape Alan. I would probably have picked out a little more detail in the buildings and see that you’ve now done more, so look forward to seeing the later post - if and when! I also paint in oils and like to leave the painting for a few days in between sessions, not just to let the paint dry but just to observe and mull over what it needs next- if anything. I also like your high angle for this.

Fabulous colour on the water Alan but I think a little more definition between the sky and sea would be nice.

Great palette Alan, as always. I know what you mean about it might be a WIP. The most difficult decision is when to stop and leave well alone. This has wonderful atmosphere as is but only you know what might be added.

35 x 38cm oil on board. No detail added as yet, but I may loosely drop in a few of the small houses that are scattered around. I was more interested in capturing the atmosphere of the place, and don’t want to detract from that too much. The strip of sky is more obvious on the painting itself, it seems to have merged with the horizon on the photo, so I may make that more defined. So, it could be a WIP or I may leave it as a finished piece, I’ll mull it over! Any thoughts appreciated.
