Glazing is all about patience Denise, you must let each layer dry, this doesn’t take long if it’s a thin glaze using a glazing medium, which I assume you have. Glazing is better achieved over an existing colour, the idea being to change that colour optically, generally with several or more layers, you’ll start to see a vibrancy that can’t be achieved by mixing colour on the palette. Your pear is mono when I spotted it on here yesterday!
Yes Alan, I've been reading up and have all I need. Apart from patience. I know it is a long process. I only intend to develop the colours by building up multiple glazes. It's an experiment for me. I know I should be painting many oils before I even try this but I just couldn't wait. If I make a mess, it will be a good learning experience either way I think.
I’m all for experimenting D, go for it!
Just back from a nice walk, only spoiled by working. Here is the 11 day of Christmas.

Lots of great work, like the mono pear as it is Denise, be interesting to see how it goes, why don’t you put it on WIP. Great portraits Ron and Paul. I expect I missed something out but don’t seem able to scroll back anymore without losing what I’ve written, must make notes! Mine is looking forward to the warmer seasons, watercolour pencil.
Lovely bright summery sketch Katy - particularly nice to see as it has been grey, dreich and wet all day today in Edinburgh!   Nice to see a variety of figurative work, Lewis, Ron and Alan. Mine is another mini (7" x 5") watercolour sketch of RSPB Mersehead (from a February 2019 photo - wanted to catch that glowing winter light).
Bit late on the off today, looking for inspiration so looking through some photos and decided to try some charcoal for this sketch as its a bit late to try and colour work.
Charcoal has worked beautifully on that butterfly Hilary.
Margaret, good to see you posting here again. Is it really a year? Lovely charcoal work Hilary, great detail. Lovely spring flowers Katy, a time to be looked forward to. Alan, day 11 already?! Hope you’ll show the full 12 days together at the end as you did the 6 Nations collection? I would like to try a painting of my grandson, now six months. This is a quick sketch from a photo of him in what I call his polar bear suit, trussed up and ready to go! I find babies difficult if not impossible to draw so not sure if I’ll ever get there, but maybe my NY resolution?
Really good sketches and colours, you are all working hard. I decided Tahiti was time I had a go with the oil pastels I had for Christmas. Tried something simple to star with , unfortunately i and have anything to blend with other that a finger wrapped in tissue. Need a lot more practice.
Paul, I just can’t get on with the oil pastels the blending just evades me! Lovely to see a sketch of your Grandson Tessa.  Katy love your splash of a summer meadow and Hilary love your butterfly in charcoal! I must buy more charcoal as left mine in Spain when I moved! Margaret really like your watercolour sketch too! Finally Alan your eleventh day has not disappointed! I have been very lack lustre today but I have just sketched a rough portrait from my imagination. I love portraits however I am pretty rubbish at them myself so some practice needed!
