Alan, your 12 days of xmas have made me laugh everyday as it reminded me of the dreadful school concert I ruined. My mum is 82 in a couple of days and I mentioned it to her. I told her why I had been reminded of it. She remembered it like it was yesterday and we had a good giggle over the phone. Katy, your painting is full of spring, as for putting the pear on WIP, I think they might get more of a laugh when it starts going wrong. Hilary, that's a beautiful butterfly and Margaret I am enjoying your watercolours. Such a lovely sketch of your grandson Tessa and Paul, you have done well with the oil pastels. Here is my sketch for tonight. I've already named it Wonky staircase, try again.
So many more fantastic sketches. So many to mention individually. Everyone seems to get better and better, which I’m assuming is down to all the practice. I’ve been doing some exercises in the use of silhouettes and reverse-silhouettes (drawing with the eraser) of the sitter.
Dianne I find staircases etc really difficult and mine would be beyond wonky good on you for having a go! Nice sketches Ron the fella on the chair is a challenging position to draw! I have done a sketch of an abandoned stone outbuilding today.
Looks like a very grand staircase, Denise - as Gillian says, they are tricky and you made a good attempt  (I tried to do ours recently - some "interesting" results ...).  Ron, your "drawing with the eraser" has been very effective.  A nice composition, Gillian, are you thinking of doing a painting.   My sketch is an extremely quick watercolour attempt at trying to capture the fugitive colours of some clouds out of the window.

More great variety and thoughts! I must try the eraser drawing, very effective. Mine is an experimental doodle with added cold tea again, one of my favourites and when I’m too lazy to go and get fresh water!
Another set of great sketches.  Tessa your grandson looks adorable in his teddy suit, I have never thought of using my cold tea or coffee! Might give it a go.  Paul, I struggle with oil pastels, nothing seems to shift them to blend properly.  Lovely portrait Gillian and I really like your abandoned building would make a nice painting.  The staircase is marvellous Denise, I don’t know why but it seems like a very ghostly scene, is that a figure at the top or an apparition!  I been concentrating on shading and I really like the figure work Ron, a very challenging pose to capture.  The delicate watercolours are lovely Margaret. Ive been working on this sketch most of the day, its an old fashioned silver teapot, Ive a long way to go as the shape is really challenging.
Loads of fantastic sketches. I’m really pushed to comment any individually, because they are all so good that it’s somewhat overwhelming. I plan to get back into it in the next couple of days. This forum is so encouraging!
Great sketches everyone, Hilary, it was a figure on the staircase but I like apparition far better.
Hadn’t considered a painting of the outbuilding but after your question Margaret think I should!
Think it would be a lovely subject Gillian.  A good start on the teapot Hilary - it has a lovely "gleam".
Lovely old building nestled in the trees, Gillian. Margaret, it must be difficult to catch the fleeting colours particularly at this time of year. Another great figure, Tessa. I like the subtlety of the tea. I’ve tried espresso a few times and it’s a bit like sepia. Good luck with the rest of the teapot, Hilary, it’s looking great already. Last day of the workshop today and I get the impression it contains collage. Not exactly my ‘cup of tea’ (pardon the pun, Tessa) but could be interesting. Does anyone do portraits in collage?
Good luck with that Ron! No, collage is my least favourite arty thing, our teacher tries to get us into it at least once a term and I just have no enthusiasm for it, though I can admire some work by others. For anyone who takes The Artist magazine there’s a quite interesting article on collage portraits by Kate Newington this month. I just remember it as something I did in junior school  and think of it at that level!  I’m ready to be shot down by any of you collage fans out there!
