I've come to this a bit late.  First my internet connection went down and took five days to fix, this coincided with my computer uttering its last gasp.  It's eight years old.  At my age that seems like brand new.  But no...desktop computers have  a life of 5 to 7 years, after that it's not worth getting them upgraded or repaired.  I've finally bit the bullet and bought a new machine, for all their faults I wouldn't be without one.  That's why I haven't been commenting or posting. Returning to the subject of this thread...AI...I read an interesting  article about AI on an art blog I occasionally visit.  It was written by a gallery owner and called 'Feed the artist, not the algorithm.'  Apparently there are three main companies touting AI, they've all built up massive databases of art.  Those artists who discovered their work was on these databases could not get it taken off.  The AI companies apparently quite happy to bulldoze their way through artist's wrights. This is deadly serious for all artists and designers trying to make a living through their art, from painters and illustrators, to the people who design our food packaging.  Apparently these AI people produced an illustrated children's book over a weekend, purloining the skills of artists who've taken years to developing their art with a few clicks of a button. So I looked up 'AI lawsuits'.  As you'd expect, there are plenty.  Getty  images are preparing a lawsuit, apparently their vast archive of art is on the AI database.  A group of American artists are also preparing a lawsuit, their work has been taken with no consent, no compensation, and no accreditation.  It's hard to believe these lawsuits will fail, the AI people have been so blatant, but where big business and money is involved you can never be sure. Something worth watching.
Interesting update, Lew - I hope those lawsuits ARE successful, though it's a minefield to police. On desktop pc's - we've been made dependent on them.... they have obsolescence built in; I don't mean in a particularly cynical way, but every update and tech development exposes the weaknesses of older machines, as they inevitably will.  You only realize how dependent on them we are when the internet connection goes down, or the computer issues its last weary beep before settling down and embracing oblivion.  My current gripe is apps - "haven't you got our app?" - no, bank, or surgery, I haven't; because I don't possess the sort of device on which they work and I'm not going to shell out hundreds of quid up to and probably exceeding £1,000 in order to host your damn' app....
Yes Robert, let's hope common sense prevails in the law courts.  I shall keep my eye out for any reports, not that it effects me too much, art is just a hobby, albeit it a consuming one. Desktops are my only option too, I thought (briefly) about replacing my desktop corpse with an i-pad but I need a full size keyboard and a large screen.  I have an i-phone, but only for emergencies, I really struggle with the tiny keyboard on those.  I too am constantly bombarded with emails from my bank about their app, but it's only for mobile phones.
Am I just being paranoid about the amount of "Michael's" posting on the gallery? If so, apologies..
No Jim you are not paranoid...they are blatant copies and he is not an artist.
Jim I pointed out to Michael that if he post four each day it pushes other people’s artwork off the page and suggest that he limits to one two at most . His reply was that he was unaware that it caused this to happen and that he would reduce his postings . I did mention to Dawn that I had discussed it with him and she was ok with that , hopefully he will follow up as I think he will due to less in the past couple of days . Though I haven’t looked today so far.
Grrrrrrrrrrr
Sorry Sylvia as moderators we cannot ban him , nor reduce his postings that’s why I asked him to do so.
It's very difficult because someone else has posted four today. We have to treat everyone equally although I accept that this person isn't likely to do that every day.  The difference as Sylvia says is that one is an artist and the other isn't.
As Dixie implies, those of us who post in the forum do not own the site and if the publishers are happy then we should, as some-one recently said, 'grin and bear it'.  There are plenty of other postings to click on.  What does strike me as curious is the extraordinarily broad range of styles which makes me wonder if the 'artist' is extremely accomplished (if so why the obvious photomanipulation?) or, as many suspect, these are digitally altered photographs.  In all fairness, I would say that we do not know the origin of the original photographs and it would be wrong to speculate as to whether there is any copyright contravention.  Many people make use of royalty free stock especially when creating websites.  Under the Ts&Cs for the site it does say (15.4.7) that contributions should not be likely to deceive any person.  To my mind, suggesting these postings are original 'paintings' would contravene that, but describing them as 'digital art' just brings us back to the subject of this thread, "When DO we stop calling something 'Art'.  Tracy Emin's unmade bed seems to be established as 'art', though the adjectives used to describe mine would suggest it is not at all artistic. If, unlike me, you do like these postings then you can often preview them on https://windowsforum.com/forums/the-water-cooler.88/.  Look for postings marked as 'art' with the subtitle 'Whoosh'.  One thing I will predict is that there is a 'Lot of Hot Air' coming our way.

Thanks Tony… an interesting site which is a new one to me! I’ve found both of the Pirate’s images on that site, and a rather nice Hot Air image!

I only growled Paul....I realise that moderators cannot ban a poster, .  My problem is they are paintings/pictures created by someone else.   The guy plays around with some manipulating programme and in my book it isn't digital art.  He is not an artist this site is for artists .I'm sure there is a site somewhere where he can post the stuff to his hearts delight. Nuff said or I might begin to bite. I like that Alan.   Is that a manipulated pic?  There must be a place for them just not on an art site...and ugly people.
