Lovely series of portraits, Gary. Forgot all about the Raw Umber Sessions again, but
enjoyed attempting #PAOTW yesterday though I cheated and paused the video as short of time. Ws pencils and fountainpen - with water brush - a couple of bits are a bit splodgier than they are meant to be! A5 Not
Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week - was live but video still up https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=687172792099781&id=107862852600046

Dixie, nice sketch and painting coming along nicely - hopefully you will get back there sometime. Beautifully drawn, Tessa - I think that would make a lovely painting.
I've been painting again rather than sketching - barnacle geese coming to land at RSPB Mersehead from one of my own photos. I also did a bit more work on painting 4 from yesterday following Alan's suggestion - I tried Light Red but ended up using Indian Red as the Light Red and the Burn Sienna turned out looking much the same (different manufacturers). Thanks Alan, I do think it looks better - I'm not sure if that is what you had in mind? (I have a lot to learn about painting - much happier with a pen usually!)

Absolutely what I had in mind Margaret, that’s turned out really impressive.
As I said yesterday, look at Turner’s watercolour sketches, they’re all done on tinted paper (he had a selection of colours he took on his sketching trips), often blue and grey. Simplicity was his key to success, like your little sketch.

Thank you very much Alan - your tips and comments are much appreciated. I love Turner's sketches - we are lucky in Edinburgh that there is an annual Turner exhibition in January at the RSA - https://www.nationalgalleries.org/exhibition/turner-january - I have been a few times - a whole room of Turner!
This series of watercolour sketches are actually much bigger than my usual sketches (which usually range from A6 to A5) - they are 20" x 8" - I needed to practice larger scale washes.
Thank you very much Dixie - I'm practicing. Fairly happy with very small scale stuff, find larger stuff trickier - I have done quite a few fairly dreadful watercolours that I've not posted!

impression of the weavers cottages at Arlington row Bibury from memory. Might make a nice painting I was thinking 🤔
