Thank you Dixie, Tessa and Alan.  Interesting that no 2 was one you all preferred.  Like your suggestion Alan, re no. 4 - sorry, I should probably have put this in another thread.   My watercolour technique is very hit and miss so trying to improve - all your comments much appreciated.
I've slipped badly this week and haven't posted since the last Raw Umber session. I must pick things up. Anyway, here's yesterdays results of my efforts. She ( the presenter) was painting yesterday but I don't have those skills to hand so did the sketches.
I've just seen the rocket Dixie. Wow! The MOD would be happy with that one!
Lovely series of portraits, Gary.  Forgot all about the Raw Umber Sessions again, but  enjoyed attempting #PAOTW yesterday though I cheated and paused the video as short of time. Ws pencils and fountainpen - with water brush - a couple of bits are a bit splodgier than they are meant to be! A5 Not Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week - was live but video still up https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=687172792099781&id=107862852600046

Very nice portraits Gary and Margaret. I was just thinking that we would have been in the Cotswolds today, here is my very quick impression of the  weavers cottages at Arlington row Bibury from memory. Might make a nice painting I was thinking 🤔
Wow some super portraits, must have a look at that on FB, and a good view of the cottages Dixie.  This is a sketch earlier in my garden, shadows under the umbrella, but it’s gone dull now and rain forecast later.
Thanks Tessa , like you garden furniture scene. Move on with Arlington Row, from a different angle, hope to keep the colours light and watery if you know what I mean.
Dixie, nice sketch and painting coming along nicely - hopefully you will get back there sometime.     Beautifully drawn, Tessa - I think that would make a lovely painting. I've been painting again rather than sketching - barnacle geese coming to land at RSPB Mersehead from one of my own photos.   I also did a bit more work on painting 4 from yesterday following Alan's suggestion - I tried Light Red but ended up using Indian Red as the Light Red and the Burn Sienna turned out looking much the same (different manufacturers).   Thanks Alan, I do think it looks better - I'm not sure if that is what you had in mind?  (I have a lot to learn about painting - much happier with a pen usually!)

Absolutely what I had in mind Margaret, that’s turned out really impressive. As I said yesterday, look at Turner’s watercolour sketches, they’re all done on tinted paper (he had a selection of colours he took on his sketching trips), often blue and grey. Simplicity was his key to success, like your little sketch.
Thank you Margret . Both your paintings are really good, I particularly like the one with the geese. Your painting skills are a lot better than you give yourself credit for.
Thank you very much Alan - your tips and comments are much appreciated.   I love Turner's sketches - we are lucky in Edinburgh that there is an annual Turner exhibition in January at the RSA - https://www.nationalgalleries.org/exhibition/turner-january - I have been a few times - a whole room of Turner!  This series of watercolour sketches are actually much bigger than my usual sketches (which usually range from A6 to A5) - they are 20" x 8" - I needed to practice larger scale washes. Thank you very much Dixie - I'm practicing.  Fairly happy with very small scale stuff, find larger stuff trickier - I have done quite a few fairly dreadful watercolours that I've not posted!

I only started doing bigger than A4 mid last year, and despite my fears found it better for some situations. I still paint a lot that I don’t show anyone, it part of the learning and I feel good when one works out. Keep at it you have a really good foundation to build on.
