Thank you Dixie.   I do bigger stuff in acrylic/charcoal  - and have done very loose wet-in-wet flowers in a large scale - it is traditional wc techniques like washes etc I've been struggling with.
Yesterday (sunny) I took a sneaky photo of my hubby’s allotment neighbour when he sat for a break and said ‘ I’m a bit worried about my parsnips’ which I thought would be a great subject and title for a painting! So this is my initial sketch, planning a painting in the next few days of rain.
That’s an excellent sketch Tessa.
Super sketch, Tessa.
Thanks both!
Superb stuff everyone. Really like the portrait Margaret. That mix of inks, pencil and watercolour is quite something. And the likeness is cracking. You should sign up for PAOTY as it's better than some of the ones that got through in my opinion. Worried about Parsnips, a great title for a painting Tessa.
Margaret I find if I try to much when I’m doing washes they don’t work out to well. I now try to let them almost do their own thing , within reason. Anyway I can always then blame the paint for not getting it right. Joking aside I have even used the back of old painting to experiment on, I’m not so bothered when not wasting a reasonable painting, a few I have then develop. Keep at it, and if your like the majority of us you will never be fully contented.

‘Lily’s Lockdown’.....this was drawn by my 15 year old granddaughter. It wasn’t done in a day, however, but I thought I‘d post it on here, I’ve also put it on the gallery. I’m so proud of her, she’s been accepted for Nottingham Art College on a two year course. Her GCSE mock exams were fine, but she’s now waiting on what will happen! Trying times....
A beautifully drawn can, you are quite right to be proud of her, hope all goes well for her future.
Wow well done to your granddaughter Ellen, that’s superb. Do I remember you posting some of her work before?
Thank you, Alan and Tessa for your lovely comments. You’re right Tessa I’ve posted some of her work before. She’s really focused about her future at art college. After two years she can choose whether to on to Trent University or go into an apprenticeship. She’s also very good at textiles. Her GCSE mock results and course work will go the examiner, along with the teacher’s comments. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for her in these surreal times.

Thank you very much Gary.   I wasn't watching the programme live but I did tweet the sketch when I was done - was "liked" but not retweeted by the programme's account - which didn't surprise me, there was some seriously good stuff online. Thanks Dixie - yes, I've been to use the back of other paintings too (sometimes deliberately!).    Your grand-daughter is super-talented, Ellen - beautifully drawn.
