The ‘Deeper Portraiture’ collection focuses on representing the mental health issues, instability and wounds hidden within people. Each portrait is painted not only using the subjects face but also by allowing their life experiences to melt through the image, consequently creating a collection of dark, painful portraits. Karma Lost is a representation of the way children with mental illnesses were misunderstood and often mistreated in history. It is painted in dark and gloomy tones, reflective of the separation and segregation these children suffered with little help. But also saturated with glowing streaks of subtle light showing the hope that would come with the increasing understanding of mental health that would develop over time.
