The ‘Deeper Portraiture’ collection focuses on representing the mental health issues, instability and wounds hidden within people. Each portrait is painted not only using the subjects face but also by allowing their life experiences to melt through the image, consequently creating a collection of dark, painful portraits. Salute to the Damned represents the lowest points and darkest days that those suffering with depression endure. The jagged lines and rough paintwork along with the limited colour pallet come together to create an ominous sense of self loathing, anger and expected doom.
