The ‘Deeper Portraiture’ collection focuses on representing the mental health issues, instability and wounds hidden within people. Each portrait is painted not only using the subjects face but also by allowing their life experiences to melt through the image, consequently creating a collection of dark, painful portraits. Wicked Child discusses the demonization of those suffering mentally and the impact it can have on the youth. It shows part of a face half hidden in a whirlwind of hair demonstrating the defence mechanisms created by those that have a limited understanding of why they are suffering.
