The Old Gum Tree

You have achieved a look of almost like an oil painting Earl, was surprised to see it was watercolour, lovely free relaxed style as well

A live tree - you've caught the spirit of the growing plant, reaching up to the sky.

Love the brushwork.

The Australian eucalyptus gum tree is beautiful. There are over 700 species, many having a distinctive style of their own. Colours can go from just white (ghost gum) through cream, soft neutral grey-greens, violet, orange-red, to burnt sienna and deeper browns ... and more. Some of the branches have "fold" marks where they change direction. The neutral green leaves usually hang downwards and are unique inasmuch as they twist on their stem to keep one side away from strong sunlight. I've taken a low viewpoint with a suggestion of clouds at the base of the painting. Eucalyptus was first introduced, from Australia, to the rest of the world by Sir Joseph Banks, botanist, on the James Cook Expedition of 1770.
