The Beauty of the Nullarbor
The Nullarbor Plains is Australia's great southern flat area with its absence of trees (hence null ... no ... arbor ... tree). The road carries cyclists (even walkers!), cars, caravans, and up to big roadtrains as they cross the continent. Because of its great, straight length (at one point the road is straight for 147 km!) it can be seen by many to be a boring trip. But if one has 'eyes to see' it is far from boring. There are wonderful, open 180 degree sculptured, rhythmic skies and various types of low bushes and coloured ground cover. MInd you, one has to watch out for stray kangaroos, and even camels. At places the road doubles as an airstrip for the Royal Flying Doctor Services. Magnificent.
