Cloud Formation near Norah Head. NSW
When I saw this huge, dark, rhythmic cloud formation slowly moving towards the Norah Head Lighthouse I thought it "just had to be painted". Concurrent in my thinking was "but how?" knowing that such a dominant element in a painting such as this cloud formation can be difficult to bring off. The clouds were just beginning to cast their shadows on the lighthouse promontory but where I was standing was still in some light. This subtle change in light was to be included in the painting but the rhythm in the huge dark clouds was to be noted and simplified ... it could not be just a "black" mass. I've tried to understate the foreshore with simple brushmarks so as to not take attention away from the clouds. Arches Not paper was used.
