Jessie Gap. East MacDonnell Ranges. NT. Australia
Running left and right of Alice Springs in the centre of Australia are the MacDonnell Ranges. Here one can take in the striking orange-red cliff faces and rocky outcrops. Some of the gorges have a small amount of water but this can change in the wet season. The trees seem to survive the extreme heat and project a welcome relief to the harshness of the rugged rock. At Jessie Gap the just-off vertical strata is more noticeable than many other places. The colours of the grasses in their range of yellows and siennas make the Red Centre a great landscape with its clear cobalt blue over-arching wide sky.
