Friend of Pigeons
Over the course of my working career I had the privilege to share in the lives of many older folk. I was impressed, almost daily, with their resilience, their joie de vivre – sometimes despite physical and mental challenges, and their vast store of wisdom garnered from many years engaging the ups and downs of life. Occasionally, I would be truly saddened by some lonely souls who had outlived their spouses and friends and who enjoyed only infrequent visits from children. Their solace was often found sitting on a park bench or along a busy sidewalk with the company of pigeons clamoring for breadcrumbs.
