Troubadours were an important component of the medieval entertainment scene. As composers and performers their songs were mostly about chivalry and courtly love. Bands of travelling troubadours often accompanied by groups of players would stage entertainments in small towns, villages and even cities. Additionally, they would tell imaginative stories of court life and of far away places to the delight of local folk who would rarely have travelled more than a few miles from their place of birth.
