Acrylic on stretched canvas (18 inches by 24 inches) Palette (Acrylic colours): Cobalt blue, Phthalo blue, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre, Payne's Gray and Titanium White. There exists in British Columbia (Canada), within the BC interior, a magical time of the year when summer has resisted the colder winds of Fall. The trees have only just started to show their Fall colours, because of the colder nights, giving a preview of the seasonal splendors to come. The seasonal change is a painter`s delight because of the wonderful contrast of green(s), of orange, of yellows, and of the background blue-green full colour spectrum. The approaching Fall brings cooler temperatures which provides clear, clean air for unobstructed views free of the summer's humidity. This is truly the artist`s time of year! This was the time -late October- I chose to forage along Mission Creek for access not just to gain a good view of the creek, but also for a view free of over-hanging branches and reeds which would obstruct my frame of vision. In the Spring, the melting snow fills the creek bed to flood levels as evidenced by the sizable boulder field. In September, when the salmon come up the creek to spawn, ponds form in the boulder fields - as shown in the painting - providing resting places for the fish as they swim upstream against the flow of creek water. The trees lining the creek serve to keep the water cool; essential for that part of the salmon life cycle spent in the creek.
