Delightful subject and a lovely lively piece of work Thea

Thank you very much Dermot - very kind of you.

Great, Thea. I love your delicate, less is more approach.

Clean and fresh Thea and in your own style. Love that sheep staring back at us!

Beautiful techniques and composition Thea such lovely style

Lovely painting in a style that is all your own an absolute delight Thea well done .

A delightful composition Thea, and you have described the barns beautifully.

A lovely piece of work Thea, the buildings look great, greens crisp and clear. Great style!

I think this is delightful Thea. Love your style.

Your painting technique has a fresh, springlike quality all of its own! It's always a pleasure to see your postings on here :)

Love the well placed sheep, especially the inquisitive looking one. Also, the colours used, the mauve/shadow shade on the buildings works very well against those lovely shades of green. Super painting, lots to look at and yet not overworked. It's all very well balanced. You know when to put the brush down don't you, those white areas adding so much freshness.

I love this, Thea! The sheep are priceless, and the warm and cool combination of colors throughout the painting really add the zing to the piece. And as usual, bright, beautiful and translucent washes. Superb!

Thank you very much John, Christine, Dennis, Fiona and Dennis for adding such encouraging and kind comments. The sheep weren't there in the original sketch but I thought a few grazing ewes might add to the scene (especially the feisty one!).

Thank you very much Carole, Dympna, Sarah, Louise, Glennis and Seok for such kind and generous comments. Glad the shadow works ok, Louise - I am not great with deciding about shadows and often get them wrong - so phew!

Instantly recogniseable Thea, no one else produces sketchs quite like you. Smashing.

You have put your own stamp on this project painting Thea, works very well.

Pretty as a picture, your work is always so fresh and clean and it makes me smile!

Bob Elcock's LP Painting Project from John Williams Landscape Sketch. I saw this project in the latest LP mag and also saw a few versions on the gallery so I thought I would have a go. I used to live in the North West near Cumbria and there were lots of barns like these ones dotted around the countryside. Barns tend to be portrayed as quite dark and solid, but I remember seeing them with the stonework and mellow roofs glowing in the sunshine, so I decided that was how I was going to interpret the sketch. There is lots of greenery in the scene (which rather freaked me out) but I took my courage in both hands and sailed forth into battle with my bete noire colour! Watercolour.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
