My Brother (One Liner)

My Brother (One Liner)

Now if you'd asked 'Guess Who?' I'd have said Father Christmas! Great one-liner Thea, they are getting ever more confident and I'm sure he'll love it, your brother that is!

I see what you mean, Christine, and I am sure, as a father and grandfather, my brother has played Father Christmas on many occasions! I did actually try this one with a lot more looking while I was drawing, but the drawing turned out strangely flat and dead, so I went back to my original wonky one which seemed to capture his smile and expression so much better.

Another great one liner thea

Fantastic work Thea!

Thank you Cliff and Petra - just a bit of further fun with the one liner technique.

I'm sure your brother will love this charming portrait of him Thea! Like Christine said, it's a confident drawing and I agree with you that doing it this way creates portraits or anything really, with amazing results. They are so much more relaxed and somehow happy.

I think that you tackle the one line portrait with more verve and enthusiasm than happens when drawing more carefully while looking too much at the pen lines? This way, they are relaxed and full of personality and you are happy with the result! I'm certain that your brother will love this portrait as it's so much fun and really very good.

Oh yes definitely a Christmas cracker !

Thank you Satu, Louise and Debs - I have done a conventional portrait of my brother in the past and I was quite pleased with it at the time. However, I like this one a lot more because it makes me smile. Hopefully, it will make Malcolm smile too!

Another great piece Thea, sure your brother will love it .

This is super, so expressive as are your colours.

Smashing work, Thea. I can see why you asked in, Cliff's one liner. You have a talent with your, fine liner. Lovely work.

Fabulous! How long do these take you Thea?

A happy, splashy portrait Thea!

Thanks very much Graham, Sharon, CA, Frank and a Fiona for joining in the fun of these drawings. Frank - 10 mins for the drawing and probably 30 mins for the painting max. I think they are better if you just go for it and allow yourself to be driven by instinct rather than thought.

Thank you, Carole, not sure what my brother will think though!

Wow! I love your use of washes to define the lights and darks, Thea, subtle but the whole painting just sings. Beautifully done!

A one liner, with minimal looking, of my big brother, Malcolm. I am getting a bit more enthusiastic with the application of colour as I think it suits these rather wacky drawings. I am going to give it to my brother and see what his reaction is - I might have to duck!
