Super work Thea and love your colours, especially love how you let your colours intermingle in this racing scene it all adds to the excitement of the race, as does the way you portray the horses faces, some with ears back some with ears forward just how they would be in a real race, the flicks of brightly coloured earth are great as well as they help to add to the excitement also, a really excellent painting of all that is horse racing! Thanks so much for your lovely comment on my latest dog pastel pet portrait of the happy dog, so pleased you like it so much and particularly glad that you like my rendering of the hair in the dogs coat, I was pleased myself with how this one turned out! xx

Great feeling of speed here and I love those colours running down the page too! A lovely , exciting scene :)

Full of vibrancy and speed Thea, love the runs and splashes.

Hah, now you're letting your hair down! Do I detect some degree of abandon here Thea? Let's not use the hackneyed 'loose' word' (not sure what it implies - above all, is it a qualitative or quantitative term?), but the colour flowing a-c-r-o-s-s the painting in addition to down it makes a huge difference both terms of composition and execution. Everything's connected and organic, but there's still the delightful feeling that anything might have happened - and what's more important, still may. Enjoy yourself with your guru, but do come home as Thea...

After seeing this beauty, it's made me realize that it's time that I bought some new brushes!

Full of movement and colour Thea in clear fresh washes. I think you could teach Charles a thing or two on that course you're going on not the other way round :)

You've upped the game with this one.Deeper colours and tones very good

Galloping deliciously freely across the page, horses and paint. It's already been said. Enjoy your course.

Thank you so much Ros, Sarah, Fiona, Louise (yes - new brushes make all the difference!), Kim and David for such positive feedback. I almost feel that I am getting somewhere after receiving such nice compliments! Kim, at the risk of embarrassing you, I think your continued support, really helpful feedback and studying your stunning paintings have all been instrumental in my trying to let go a bit more. As for morphing into someone else after the course - not a chance - too old for that now I fear lol! However, I have always fancied being Mark Knopfler for a day - imagine being able to play the guitar like him!

Thank you very much, Gudrun, it is very kind of you to leave such a nice comment.

They have already said it all, Thea, the others but I just wanted to show my support and admire the lovely free style that you have here with the galloping horses. The new brushes seem to work very well!

I think that this is one of your strongest works to date, Thea. The composition works with the flow of vertical paint against the horizontal lines and I love your use of colour.

Lovely painting Thea. One of my favourites of yours. Really well done.

Way to go Thea - you'll give old Charles a run for his money!!

Thank you so much Satu, Teresa, Paul and Debs for all your encouragement - very much appreciated. This was one of those rare paintings that just went ok from start to finish - no faffing required. It is great when that happens as I find those paintings have more of a fresh feel to them. Debs, I'm not sure dear Charles has ever painted race horses, but I will ask him lol! I've promised myself a break from painting boats and racehorses, but I haven't come up with any other subject that really compares with the colour and excitement of these - so any suggestions anyone?

Although it has all been said before - Another great watercolour. Looking for a subject? Have you considered rowing?

Nearly missed this one Thea - one of my favourites in your own iconic style

Thank you so much Pat, Michael and Lesley for your generous comments - much appreciated.

Hi Thea, thanks so much for your great comment on my latest dog pastel portrait Leon, the chocolate Labrador, really pleased you like him so much, the original photographer on the paintmyphoto website has commented on that site that several people tried to paint Leon, but they had not come up with anything like this and he loves it, so it is really good that so many people on this site and on that one like it so much, I agree that it is my best work yet, as soon as I posted it on the sites it 'jumped' out at me, and that is the key isn't it when trying to get an objective view of our own work, trying to move on from what we have been seeing while we have been studiously working away on the work, and you are just about to embark on new things aren't you, finding new things and scenes to paint, maybe part of be reason I came up with my best work yet was linked to me dabbling in the ACEO miniatures and moving out of my comfort zone a bit by testing myself with those, a change is as good as a rest has been said and maybe it's true! Bye or now xx

Great action Thea, you get better and better with these horses!

Awesome Thea, Love it!

Thank you very much Carole and Petra for such encouraging comments. Much appreciated and valued.

Great painting! I like the way you paint the horses. There's the feeling of movement and speed. Well done.

Thank you very much, Riaz.

Just one last race horse painting before I try a change of subject. I bought some new Escoda Reserva brushes and wanted to really give them all a good try out, but ended up doing this painting using only the size 10 as it has such a superb point that I didn't have to go to a smaller size for any of the detail. That's what I call a result! Watercolour on Langton 200lbs. 35cm x 22cm.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
