I love the format and the way the sky and grass echo the huge stones.

A difficult subject I would think but as usual you have made an excellent job of it Thea!

Very nice glow to those stones Thea, good sketch!

Really like the darkness in the middle of the stones Thea, portrays that errie feeling you have for the atmosphere of the place. The long shadows add to that atmosphere.

Thank you very much Avril, Christine, Gudrun, Louise and Fiona - really nice of you to leave positive feedback. Also, don't faint now but I actually was quite pleased with this sketch. I did it quite quickly - didn't think about it too much and just let my gut feeling about the place guide my hand. Enjoyed painting it as well - always a bonus, lol.

I find sometimes that if I think and plan too much about a watercolour or pen and wash then my initial enthusiasm for the subject I plan to paint is lost. I always find that it's best to just go for it! It's only paint and paper after all..if the painting doesn't work, there's always next time! I can tell that you enjoyed painting this one.

You have added your usual feeling of light to what is often a dark, heavy scene.

Beautiful

Looking forward to visiting this on 4th August Thea

Thank you very much Stephen, Phillip and Frank for adding your very kind feedback. Louise, I don't normally just dive in gung ho style, but I had just murdered a boat painting and binned it and was in a rather 'devil may care' mood and just went for it with this one. I think it took about half and hour.

So simply represented and so effective.

A great sketch of wonderful place Thea.

A good painting I lived not far from the stones when I was young [memories]

Great painting Thea, I missed a lot of everybody's work, computer went down again thanks to a virus.

Wonderful Thea, I have caught up with you still last! Have had to make a concerted effort today to search out people's work, while being a bit distracted by the Tour of France! Great washes in this and great shape to the overall structure as well

Pen and Wash of the iconic and mystical Stonehenge. It is a place that I have always found fascinating and slightly eerie, so it was a interesting subject to have a go at. I tried to catch the idea of the light on the stones at the front and the deep tones of the stones in that were in dark shadow and the sketch was done quite quickly to try and keep a feeling of spontaneity and looseness. Done in my Sketchbook.

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
