Super fresh sketch Thea, full of life. The drawing work looks good to me, especially the boats.

These holiday sketches are lovely Thea. Your fondness of the area shines through!

Another little gem Thea, I want to go there!

Not that accurate a general impression and only a few details!!?? That may describe my paintings but I don't think you could get any more detail in it if you tried. Another perfect composition and good colors as usual. This panoramic format works really well.

Thank you very much Stephen, Louise, Christine and Kevin for all the positive vibes - much appreciated as always. Kevin - I confess to being lazy at drawing. Now that I have started to do more pen and wash, it has really highlighted my general ineptitude and I am resolved to try and improve things. However, I am trying to achieve a balance between accuracy, particularly in respect of perspective, and keeping more immediate sketchy look, wobbly lines, etc and am finding it tricky. The sketchy look, without the accuracy, seem to be winning at the moment. I am loving the panorama formula - never really done it before I acquired this size of sketchbook, but it is here to stay I think.

What a gorgeous watercolour of this scene that clearly holds so many memories of your children growing up Thea, this is full of all those delightful colours that we have come to know and love in your artwork, you are making paintings like this look so easy, when clearly that are anything but, you have brightened up an increasingly dull day with this this painting!

Know the quay very well and the cold bottom! This is a lovely painting that has caught the feeling of Blakeny beautifully

Thank you very much Ros and Jon for such encouraging comments. The North Norfolk coast is a largely undiscovered gem - beautiful brick and flint buildings, little harbours like Blakeney and Morston, some wonderful beaches which are often largely deserted. We had a house there for 6 years and sold it 3 years ago and this was the first time we had gone back. I realised how much I had missed it all. Sadly, I had only just started painting when we had the house, so I didn't capitalise on the potentional for sketching and painting over there, as the light is also amazing. We are going back in September - so more sketches to come!

Great little pen & wash Thea, packed with colour, life and informaton.

This is a beautiful little painting Thea. I find your work very inspiring, makes me want to paint.

Wow Thea this is certainly different for you, love it and certainly love that part of the world.

Thank you very much Fiona, Mark, Peter and Kirstie - such kind and lovely comments. Mark, I am taken aback that I would inspire anyone, let alone a good artist like yourself, but it is a lovely compliment, so I thank you. Kirstie, just get out there and do it. I mostly stood holding my sketchbook while I drew what was in front of me and although there were people about, they just went about their business and left me alone. I had a dog on the end of the lead when I was doing a couple of the sketches, but she managed to keep fairly still - amazing what dropping a few treats will do!

My beach sketches (next one posted tomorrow) were done on virtually deserted beaches - if you don't count the seagulls! No chance of anyone looking over your shoulder there. I think I must give of a tortured artist air as no-one seems to bother me when I am sketching!

I have enjoyed your sketchbook so far. They are very evocative of the area and as someone has already mentioned, the image will be forever etched in your memory.

ps I always have good intentions when I go somewhere, with a sketchbook, but I never really get down to it. I shall next time!

Thank you, Gudrun - very kind of you. Yes, get your sketchbook out and with your drawings skills, I think you will produce some lovely work.

Gorgeous work, Thea! Love the panoramic effect of the scene.

Another super, colourful sketch. Great work.

A very colourful and jolly scene Thea, deserves to be in a frame.

Great picture. I love your work.

Nearly missed this Thea, been offline for a bit, its just lovely.

The 3rd of my Norfolk holiday sketches. This one is of Blakeney Quay. I sat on the edge of the quay (very cold and numb bum!) with my legs dangling towards the water so that I could get a more low down view. When we had a holiday house near to Blakeney, I used to bring the grandchildren down to go crabbing off the quay, which they loved, so I have lovely memories of that. Drawing is not that accurate as with the time permitted, I just had to go for a general impression of the place with a few details thrown in for good measure. Pen and Wash in my sketchbook.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
