A winner I feel! Lovely work. It is all about taking part but oh, the disappointment. Mine didn't get anywhere either..LOL

Handled the watercolour realy well.- David

Thanks, Louise. Based on your kind comment, can I nominate you to be a judge in the next POL competition and I might stand a better chance lol! You entry was lovely and loose and dynamic. However, they seem to prefer very representational work, so our style is probably not going to cut the mustard.

Thank you, David, very kind of you.

Lovely little watercolour Thea, you should have been the winner, who was anyway? Have they put on the website somewhere? These are so cute, .lovely little gems, and so sweet , the little lambs looking so innocent and the mum looking suitably protective over her lovely little offspring, a great little family group, the gate is in just the right place as well, trust you to come up with a really lovely little work Thea!

Very nicely done Thea. Like the arrangement and the fence.

Thank you very much Ros and Paul for such nice comments. Ros, you picked up on exactly what I was trying to convey about the mother's feelings for her little lambs. I felt the painting should be about more than just painting a few lambs - but hey ho - what do I know. However, I think I am flogging a dead horse with my style of painting in these competitions - none of those chosen ever seem to be in that style.

What do the judges know? I think it's good and so do you!

Well, Stephen, ours is not to wonder why. I was rather pleased with it, I admit, but mostly because I don't paint animals and it turned out actually looking like a sheep - always a bonus. When you enter these competitions, if you win, the judges are the best in the business - if you don't then the judges need to go to Specsavers lol! It's the luck of the draw in the end and I am hopeless at judging whether what I have painted is good or not. I rely on the nice folks on POL to tell me if I get it right or wrong.

Such a sweet little water colour, with bags of style and lots of empathy for a ewe and her pretty little lambs, it's a winner in my book!

Thank you very much Debs and Gudrun for such nice comments.

A nice little study with great use of colour. Ewe'll be disappointed it didn't get anywhere as you said, but it did. It's here for us all to enjoy.

Hi Thea thanks so much for commenting on the 5 of my pastel portraits that you have missed, so kind of you to take the time to have a look at those and give such lovely comments on them all, good to know that you are back amongst us!

Like this composition Thea, and your use of colour on the mother.

I've noticed a tendency to do psychedelic sheep of late (Jean Haines inpired?) and yours is wonderfully honest corrective Thea: "to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man".

Thank you very much Robert (like the joke!), Lesley and Kim for such nice comments. Kim, I am glad you like my take on the sheep - I felt the painting shouldn't be too fanciful as Spring lambs don't need a lot of improving on as they are pretty cute as they are. I hadn't actually got a clue what I was doing (not an animal artist), so I have to admit that how it turned out was more luck than judgement.

This was my entry for the Spring Lamb competition, but sadly it didn't get anywhere. Never painted a sheep before as I don't do animals, but I was reasonably pleased with the end result. It's the taking part and all that..... or that's what I am telling myself lol! Watercolour on Langton 200lbs. (P.S. Apologies if I have missed anyone's postings, but with my CR course hotly followed by going on holiday it left little time for scanning the gallery. I am trying to catch up!)

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
