This is delightful Thea, it will make a beautiful Christmas card. You've caught that magical look in Hector's face. You can tell your grandchildren a secret, Santa's reindeers are now over here practicing for the big night pulling santa and his sledge, I know 'cos I saw them in Aviemore the week before last ! Tell them to keep it under their hats though.

Lovely Christmas card here Thea. The facial expressions are excellent, both of them are concentrating hard on that letter! I like the overall composition and you've caught the magical moment well.

This will be much appreciated by your family this Christmas Thea, very good idea and well painted.

It is a magical moment caught forever Thea.

Now that is what Christmas is all about! Lovely painting and lovely story. You must be a wonderful grandma. Looking at your picture makes me feel quite Christmassy and I love your clear, bright colours. Hope you will share your other two designs.

Thank you very much Val, Louise, Carole, Fiona and Christine for your very kind comments. Christmas cards are always difficult as they can end up being a bit stylised - but then that is Christmas, isn't it!

Lovely Painting Thea and a wonderful memory

Thank you, Glennis - and only about 6 weeks to Christmas!! Help!

A wonderful memory caught in your lovely style :)

Lovely relaxed festive feel to your work Thea, mind you I know it's the Xmas theme but these pictures bring out the festive mood in me, and I'm sure many others as well. :-)

Absolutely delightful Thea! Being a Finn I know that we take this Santa business really seriously and those who organize it try to have it perfect year after year. Every letter sent to Santa is read and answered. Thousands and thousands arrive to Finland and very often the address only says: Father Christmas, Lapland. I'm so happy that you had a great time there and now this lovely memory of the occasion.

Love the expressions on their faces and FC's glasses made me smile, I think the window finishes it off nicely!

Thank you very much Sarah, Paul,Satu and Debs for such lovely comments. I didn't know you were a Finn, Satu! I can't say much but I may well be meeting Santa again in the very near future - but Mum's the word as it is a surprise.

wonderful expression...... lovely......... i think this is my fave

Love all your Christmas cards Thea!

This is the first of three designs I have done for my Christmas Card for this year. It is from a photo I took 6 years ago when I took my grandsons to Lapland to meet the real Santa. In the photo Santa (who was marvellous!) was reading the letter that Hector had sent him. How Santa had got the actual letter was a mystery - but he had it and Hector was in awe as they read the letter together. A magical moment. Watercolour on Langton 200lbs.

About the Artist

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
