A beautiful soft and natural portrait Thea. This is really lovely.

Thank you, Carole, for being so kind. I must admit that painting two faces is a tad challenging, especially when one face is your own!

Portaits are difficult especially when you are close to the subject - but this is a very natural portrait, and you can see he is enjoying a cuddle. I would be very pleased with this Thea.

How lovely Thea! I mentioned before that I thought that a 'double' portrait must be difficult to pull off. I imagine that you get one face right and then be not happy with the other. You've done so well here and I admire you for doing so! It's beautiful and something to cherish in years to come. You look ok as well (lol)

Beautiful portrait with your great distinctive style, really lovely Thea

If you struggled with this it doesn't show, Thea. It's dleightful.

A lovely honest piece of work Thea.

Not sure I see any struggle, Thea - this is up to your usual very high standard. It's absolutely super - the washes are lovely, and the sentiment of love and warmth is definitely conveyed so very effectively. It's a real winner!

A beautifully intimate portrait....well done.

A beauiful, well painted portrait Thea, and a beautiful moment captured.

Thank you all so very much - you've cheered me up no end. I am about to embark on another double portrait so I need all the encouragement I can get!

I agree with all the above comments, Thea: this is so full of love and tenderness. I just can add: I love it, it is beautiful!!!

Well you've certainly set yourself a challenge here, you do realise this is so good you are now going to have to paint yourself with ALL your grandchildren!!! Can't wait to see that one - love this one.

Such a happy portrait Thea of the two of you, beautifully portraying a shared tender moment. Another one that will become a family heirloom I think.

Lovely portrait, Thea. Love your light touch and the way that you handle the subtle washes, especially behind the hair to give definition. Like you, I'm a big fan of white paper.

Thank you, Mia, Debs, Val, Larry and Jeanette for such lovely comments. I am glad the feeling of the painting seems to be coming over as it was what I was trying to achieve. Jeanette - I get very uncomfortable if I lose too much white paper in a painting - even have been know to start twitching lol!

So delicately evocative, Thea....This is quite special....

Thank you so much, Ruth. I missed you today - hope you are well.

It is another nice painting Thea, I think you have conveyed much warmth between "RANA" and granchild in this, like the delicate washes you have used on a fine piece of portrait drawing.

Well now we know Thea - how we look that is! Affection and warmth shine out of your portrait work. whereas mine tend more to the hostile and chilly. Hey-ho.... Thanks for your detailed, informed and constructive comments to my stuff - I really appreciate it. Fisher's face continues to fascinate me (another version is on my easel as I write to you). Strange how some faces never cease to intrigue and attract one as a 'painter', whilst others simply don't inspire. Indigo suits Fisher well, though I believe he was a really warm and quirky human being. I'll try to add lashings of burnt siena to the new one then submit it for your appraisal. All the best, Kim

What a gorgeous watercolour Thea. I love the fact that you have a beautiful name grandma :)

Thank you very much Graham, Kim and Beatrice for such lovely comment which I do so appreciate.

I seem to have lost the plot a bit with portraits recently - struggling quite a bit with them. However, this was such a lovely photo of myself and my youngest grandson, Noah, that I felt I had to bite the bullet and give it a go. Even if I am not that happy with the actually painting of it, I liked the sentiment that came over. Hopefully viewers will see that as well. P.S. All my grandchildren call me Rana - a hangover from when my first grandchild couldn't say Grandma, and it has stuck.

About the Artist
Thea Cable

I am a watercolourist first and foremost as I love the qualities of the medium, its riskiness and unpredictability. I started painting about 8 years ago and it has now become an integral part of my life. Hopefully, I will continue to paint into my dotage as I am given to understand that you can…
