Its quite lovely, colours are nice, water and reflections are great, love the pine on the left in foreground. Could I maybe suggest pines on the right in fore ground are a little small in comparison to the ones in the middle of the painting, perhaps enlarge them a little higher than the middle pines, oh or perhaps they are baby pines just thought of that, just a friendly suggestion and I sincerely hope you don't mind me giving advice, it really is a lovely peaceful painting, kind regards Karleen.

Quite nice but the water on the right looks a bit flat, try reflecting the didtant mountains in the water as awaek inverted image, I think it could liven it up.

Thanks for the kind comments and suggestions Karleen and John. I took the inspiration from a composite of two Calendar pictures taken at different times of day and year. The pines on the shot really are as different in size as I painted them, I figuratively "chopped down" two or three big pines on the left as they obscured too much of the mountains. I think the viewpoint is quite high up and well back from the edge of the lake which does give scale problems. I find that the scale of things over the Atlantic is so different to our compact little island with huge tall trees and big mountains not to mention vast distances. I'm afraid John that I can't alter the water now as the painting is half way across the Atlantic to my friend's address!

Well its still lovely just as it is, and I'm sure your friend must love it too :) kind regards Karleen.

This was painted for a friend in Canada who sent me a lot of pictures of the beautiful scenery in the Rockies. Maligne lake is a peaceful, quiet place which I have seen a few times and always loved it. It is painted on quarter Imperial Whatman 140lb paper using mainly W & N colours. I used perylene green mixes for the tree colours and quinacridone gold for the yellows. I apologise for the two little white bits of the easel I propped the picture on to photograph it.; but if I had cropped them out it would have spoiled the balance of the picture I think.
