Nice rendition Sharon. Paintings keep the old photographs alive. Well done...

Wow Sharon, this is so beautiful. The wash on the right hand building is delicious!

Lovely colours Sharon!

Thanks fot your feed-back Jim, Fiona and Linda. Really appreciated. Im enjoying this project a lot, it takes you out of your comfort zone painting-wise, and you learn a lot about the past at the same time.

Highly accomplished skills in creating your version of a B&W photo-

Really lovely painting Sharon, beautiful building your washes are wonderful and I love the reflections in the river.

Excellent rendering Sharon and fascinating to read about your inspiration

Beautiful painting, Sharon, lovely warm colours and atmosphere.

How wonderfully atmospheric.

Derek, Carole, Dermot, Cesare, Janet : thanks for your lovely comments, means a lot to me. I have already found some more photographs I would like to interpret, cant wait to get started. Don't usually work from photographs if I dont personally know the scene, but this is another kind of challenge. Janet, thanks too for your other comment on my gallery.

Our local archive have done a tremendous job of digitalizing their huge photo collection, making historic images available to all online. My watercolour group has taken these as inspiration, and this is my take on one of the scenes depicted – the black and white photograph is old, but the scene has not changed much over the years : a view of the “Tinnenburg” seen from the original defensive moat around the town. Remains of the old watergate are still evident on the side wall of the building. Watercolour on Hahnemuehle Andalucia 500gsm rough, 30x40. Original photograph courtesy of Archief Eemland.
