I just love this one---- and as always magical paintings from magical places---- Sill playing with this charcoal and different types of paper. Some are good -some bad.----THANKYOU for all your wonderful comments, getting as my ego is to heavy to carry about

OH! bye the way, for someone who says they can not paint greens, -- they are good

Your Travalogue paintings are wonderful Seok and educational too! I had no idea where Myanmar was so had to Google it. Through your eyes I am seeing people and places I never would otherwise have seen. Keep them coming!

Thanks very much, Charles! I have a confession to make - this is my fourth attempt. I binned the other three because - yup, you guessed it, I spoilt the GREENS! I had to switch from my favorite hot-pressed Arches paper to Saunders Waterford rough, because I couldn't manage the greens! So I'm really chuffed you think it works! I'm still not quite happy with it, but I'll take your very kind comment as an endorsement not to start on painting no. 5! And you deserve all the comments on your paintings - they are FAB!

Thanks very much, Christine! Don't blame you - Myanmar was always better known as Burma. The country's official name in English was changed to Myanmar only in 1989. It's a gorgeous country. It's a pity that with all the international opprobrium, it's not touted as a recommended tourist spot, but with superb light, it is one of the best places for photography and painting.

Seok, this is a delight, and so glad this one didn't reach the bin! The greens are so fresh and they contrast beautifully with the water. I really like the way you've given us a hint of the people and left the detail to our imagination, and I love the explanation of the way these folk live. Lovely!

I agree with everuthing said, Seok. This is charming...and truly fluid...the water is wonderful. It is so interesting to read the little potted history...thank you.

This is another really lovely painting Seok and your explanation is great and I have seen these houses on stilts from photos didn't realise they still existed though.

Charming little painting Seok and equally interesting/ educational description- thanks for saving me googleing also, by explaining its Burma!

I agree with everyone, this is beautiful Seok, very nice composition and colours, lovely addition to you impressive gallery

Beautifully composed, love the way the belly of the boat sinks into the water.

Is there any where you haven't been Seok? lol ! This is a lovely painting with a very interesting story behind it, thanks for sharing!

Well done again Seok. I can't see anything wrong with your greens. Also a great composition. Why do they keep changing the names of countries, I suppose they'll be changing Britain next and call it "Gonetothedogs"!!

What a beautiful painting and such an interesting subject as well. I think your treatment of it is just right - gentle colours to suit a gentle people. How lovely to record a way of life that so many of us won't have a chance to see.

It's all been said Seok....a lovely painting and a wonderful description.

Thank you so very much everyone! Debs, I haven't been to Australia and just about half the countries near Singapore, which is where I am. It's a case of familarity breeding contempt, but I hope to redress that now that I'm painting! Fred, lol! It's still a great place to paint though!

Its all been said -tremendous use of colours in a delightfully arranged composition

Around the World in..... on POL ! Another lovely addition in painting and history. Didn't imagine that you'd had a hard time with the greens; they're perfect for me !

As always, interesting subject and lovely watercolour!

Its all been said Seok, this is again beautiful.

Superbly painted as always Seok and what a relief to know that even accomplished watercolourists such as yourself occasionally have to bin a painting LOL

Thank you so very much, Michael, Avril, Louise, Denise and Val! Val, I'm flattered you think I am an accomplished watercolorist, but well, now you know I am really a fraud - I probably bin more paintings than everyone here combined!

Can you send me the contents of your bin Seok, I'm sure I would find some gems.anyway you have another winner it seems and I like it , its lovely.

Thank you so very much, William! LOL! Believe me, you do NOT want the stuff in my bin!

this is really excellent :-) you have such talent for capturing realistic scenes in your paintings :-)

To me this painting is reminiscent of Srinegar in Kashmir, where they do hydroponic gardening and grow water lilies to feed the animals on. Similar boats on the lake too. Lovely peaceful painting.

Inle Lake is an extremely beautiful and scenic spot in Myanmar. It is populated predominantly by the Intha people, one of the 126 ethnic groups in Myanmar. The Intha live in villages built on stilts over the lake water and practice a form of hydroponic farming in gardens floating over the water (appropriately called "floating gardens"). Their men fish using conical nets and uniquely row their boats using one of their legs as a pivot.
