To Us a Son is Given
Acrylic, Monoprint and Collage. A while ago, among the several disasters that resulted from my experiments with the Gelli plate, there was one passable ghost print which I pulled while experimenting with snowflake motifs. I kept that in my drawer, not knowing what to do with it. I finally pulled it out to use today since it seemed an appropriate background for the Christmas season (even thought it's 32 degrees Celsius right now in Singapore!). The collage is of the little glittery red pear on my Christmas tree. The title of the painting is from one of my favorite Christmas verses in the Old Testament, Isaiah 9:6: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The first part of the verse is handwritten on the pear, but it's virtually impossible to see it on the photo.
