Very different Seok and I can tell you enjoyed the freedom of producing it.

Thanks very much, Val! Yes, I have to admit I rather enjoyed going through a painting without having to worry about transparency, tonal work or accuracy! I won't be showing this to my watercolor teacher or drawing teacher any time soon, though, lol!

Interesting piece Seok and now I'm going to be honest..The shapes are all a bit too randomly placed for me, they don't all tie together but from the way you describe the instruction you had, asked to print leaves and then add stamps etc, it must have been difficult to plan. Impossible really! You had fun though and that's what matters in the end.

Great colour choice for your experimental piece. I have to say that I find it nigh impossible to rise to these challenges set by art tutors and often wonder what the purpose of them are. However, I can see that you have used all your skills to draw on shapes and colours to produce this abstract work, which I really like. The only little point is that I think I would have left out the horizontal and vertical lines as the rest of the shapes look lovely and lacey on their own - a bit like dragonflies drifting on a summer breeze.

Thanks very much, Louise and Thea, for your very helpful advice and comment! I have to confess that while it was a fun piece, I am too much of an obsessive compulsive personality to be an abstract artist. I like to understand what I see!

The thing is Seok is that it must have been near impossible to imagine the finished work when your teacher kept telling you to add random objects. You were probably going along nicely and then told to add leaf prints, then stamps? You weren't doing your own thing or following your own instincts. I just can't imagine working like this! Don't be put off abstracts.

In our mixed media class a couple of weeks ago, we were asked to use some geometric shapes of objects we saw around us and paint them onto watercolor paper. I was not particularly inspired by anything I saw around me, so I used a photo of my whippet, Cara, and deconstructed her head and the background window into geometrical shapes. We were then told to pick leaves and print them onto our painting, and then to use some stamps to finish off. I have no idea what I produced at the end of the class, but it was pretty fun! (Liquid Acrylics, Acrylic Ink and watercolor).
