Negative abstract maybe, but nothing negative about this...that red just buzzes.

Looks like a beautiful aquarium Ruth very nice.

Packs a punch Ruth, beauty!

Plenty of impact Ruth, good to see you online again.

Thank you Andre, Dennis, Carole and Alan. I am enjoying exploring negative abstracts, creating a little world of my own. It is so different from the same technique when you use watercolour, and it is taking great concentration to complete a painting. As these acrylics are only 6x6" that makes it a little easier to keep the entire thing in perspective. The red gets its Zing from the digital enhancement, actually, but it is exactly as I imagined it before I started, it was just so difficult to bring it back to the vivid red/orange underpainting, but I shall keep on experimenting!

Love the bold composition and vibrant colours, Ruth. Has a lovely design element to it.

This grabbed my attention right away Ruth, the vividness of the red looks fabulous against the dark foreground.

I absolutely love this Ruth!

Great work, Ruth! Red is such a powerful colour but you've used it well here to give both life and energy to the overall image. Looking forward to seeing your continued work in digital.

Thank you Jenny and Fiona. Much appreciated.

Thank you Satu for your kind comment. Glad you like it.

Thank you for your very kind comment, Wib. I was very interested to read it, because actually this painting wasn't produced digitally, it is Atelier acrylic paint on canvas board. When I had completed the painting my photograph turned out so dark that I used the shadow and highlight tools on Picasa to enhance it. The original is much duller because I went dark too soon in the layering process when painting it, but I am working on that in the next one. You need to start in the mid tone range with transparent layers, and go darker gradually before bringing it back to the light using opaque paint. (varying additions of white) .....I'm fascinated by the process and getting rather hooked on it!.

Lovely vibrant piece Ruth

Thank you Dermot, I do appreciate your comments.

The original of this is much less bright. I have been experimenting with digital enhancement on Picasa...very interesting to see.
