Hello Ruth, I use bristle brushes for my acrylic paintings and small synthetic brushes for detail but I abuse my brushes quite a lot and use the paint straight from the tube, sables wouldn't be suitable for my style of painting. If you are thinning the paint down to a watery consistency then sables would be fine, I don't think the paint itself will harm the brush just make sure you don't leave them drying on the bench with paint on them, wash them out thoroughly. Hello, Joe, thanks for your information. I think I will try both brushes, and as you advise, use the acrylic with water for the sable. I suppose it does depend on the style I want to paint in, also the subject. I'd like to try it for animal portraits, see what sort of brush strokes work. Thanks again for taking the trouble to help.
