Fledgling Sparrow

Fledgling Sparrow

When I was a lad, there were millions of these birds - the commonest of the common. Now, they are so few that we look on them quite differently; not sure it really pays to get old - so much has been lost. But - they may yet come back.

This is a very beautiful and detailed drawing, Ruth. The bird is very lively. Maybe a little less detail and darks on the trunk above the bird would put more depth in and let the bird come more foreward (but who am I to criticize you?). Very well done anyway!!

Thank you, Robert and Mia. It is said that the sparrow is in decline...but not so here...that is why i am doing my best to encourage them...greedy little things as they are!...... hm... (visions of being eaten out of house and home) I have a whole colony of them, and they are wonderful company, cheeky, cheery and chirpy all day. Their antics make me laugh, they're like a load of teenagers, jostling and quarreling, really amusing. I am fortunate in that i have a lot of wildlife in my garden, it's a cottage garden, and I just give everything its head, so I have lots of bird and insect visitors....lots of weeds too of course...but so what!

A lovely drawing, Ruth! The tonal work and lines are excellent, and the sparrow looks like it's ready to take flight!

I like this little bird very much. A patiently done drawing! Lovely.

A lovely drawing Ruth. Luckily I have sparrows year round and they nest in the four corners of the house. They are a delight to watch...and to feed. Draw some more!

A beautiful little sparrow Ruth, great drawing.

Lovely drawing, Ruth. I think your shading is brilliant and the detail of the feathers is perfect. Well done!

A young sparrow, who will take over the survival of the species shortly...I have an immense respect for all birds. As St Francis knew them...Our Brothers.
