Wilson's Promontory by Rob Munro
At age seven, I was allowed to attend an oil painting class. At age nine came the challenge of depicting landscape, and I found a rather charming photo of Wilsons Promontory, a picturesque location in Victoria, south of Melbourne. In a day, I had done reasonably well at the essence of landscape painting. Grown-ups around me were very encouraging, and though I considered the painting unfinished, it was promptly removed from my immediate possession and framed. It has stayed with the family and now back to me ever since, and approaching forty years later it hangs on the wall not two metres from where I sit, writing about it. The painting remains unsigned, because for me it’s still unfinished, and I never sign anything until it’s finished. Height (including frame): 40.5cm (15.9in); width: 30cm (11.8in), oil on board.
