Inspired by a collection of Leonardo's studies for The Last Supper that had visited Sydney in 1983 when I was 14, at age 19 I re-created one of the drawings using conte chalk on Renaissance-era paper. A sliver of the same paper was set aside for re-creating Leonardo's signature in home-made sepia ink, and the two were framed together using mattes and mouldings as close as I could manage to the way the Windsor collection was presented at their 1983 exhibition. The sale of this piece soon after helped this then starving university student eat for months after.
