After Apelles by Rob Munro
The finest artist of western antiquity was suggested as being Apelles of Kos, who lived around the 4th century BC in ancient Greece. While nothing of his original work survives, I have re-imagined a page of his observations, quick thumbnail sketches on a scrap of papyrus, chiefly based on details of ancient Greek statues, though the tiny study in the bottom left-hand corner is suggestive of what he may have observed on a nearby table - a handled cup, a knife, a fig or pomegranate.
