I thought this was an ink version of an old watercolour...

Two inks

Lovely sketch Robert.

Two good drawings Robert- atmospheric.

This has a lot going for it as it captures a mood ... wouldn't like to live there!

Another great sketch Robert

You’ve confused me, talking about watercolour…in fact I can’t make sense of your narrative at all - it must be me! is this a new pen and ink, or an old one?

It’s got mighty cold in the Isle of Wight Robert.

I rush to clear Alan's confusion - (could be age, Alan: either yours, or mine...). This is pen and ink; it is of a building I previously painted - years ago - in watercolour. I didn't look at the watercolour when I drew the above: I drew from memory, assuming my memory would be adequate to call it to mind. Comparing the two - it clearly wasn't, because this is like the painting in only two minor respects. I used a Rotring Artpen filled with carbon black ink, and over that I drew with a fude pen filled with, in this case, the Sailor brand ink cartridges, which are water soluble. I then added water - with a brush - over the whole thing, worked more heavily in some places than in others. The object here was not necessarily to create a good drawing - and THAT'S just as well, eh? - but to experiment with different inks and pens. And no, Heather - I wouldn't want to live there either, though if you saw where I DO live, you might think the above an improvement.

Got it! I was a little confused, but now I understand… a good solid drawing!

But it only has two features in common with the watercolour, proving what tricks memory can play, since I drew it from memory in order to demonstrate a point I made in the forum; which I feel sure will fascinate....
