Please continue having fun: this is stunning. Beautiful composition and wonderful texture!

Thanks Mia, I'm finding coloured pencils quite relaxing, something I can't say about the other mediums I use !!

Lovely work Val and the white background looks good.

Thanks Louise, thought I'd miss out on a background this time after my last efforts LOL

I love this, we see so few bullfinches these days. I think the composition is very good

I love this too Val, works with no background - something I never know when to leave out or put in and then overdo it and a lovely painting gets ruiined. I have tried colour pencils but found them tedious - what paper did you use ?

No pressure needed - it seems to come natural - lovely study

As said on AF - look at you clever clogs! Love it, well done!

Love the shape of the twigs in the background

I think you and coloured pencils get on very well, Val! This is absolutely lovely and I particularly like the arrangement of branches behind the bird. Super colours and textures.

Val, I think you're really doing superbly with colored pencils. This is just lovely - the details are so delicately and effectively done. Love the fluffy feathers, which you've rendered to perfection. It's gorgeous!

This is lovely Val, we all need something relaxing to do and if you enjoy it that's great. A wonderful image.

I agree with everyone, this is beautiful Val

He's a super little bird.......lovely colours, his tiny claws and the branches are so well drawn. I know what you mean about being more relaxing..... One little pencil mark won't ruin a painting like a brush load of pigment...!!

What a lovely lot you all are, thank you for taking the time to leave your generous comments.

Norah, this was done on heavyweight cartridge paper which I prefer to bristol board. Bristol board is much whiter but it won't take as many layers of colour and I feel the pencil sometimes seems to 'slide' over the surface. That might be more to do with my bad technique though as I'm not really sure what I'm doing LOL

Val, the way you have depicted the bark, the composition and the rendering of the bird all come together to make a lovely piece of work.

Val, I nearly missed this one of yours....glad I back tracked, it's lovely even down to the glint in his eye!
